ReadyFlor - Domestic Maintenance

Readyflor is pre-finished with six coats of hardwearing, scratch resistant lacquer. Despite being very resistant to scuffs, fine scratches and day to day wear and tear, like any floorcovering, it needs to be maintained from time to time. Use a fringe mop or soft bristled broom to sweep the floor when required. This will help to remove small stones and grit that prematurely wear and scratch the floor. It is also advisable to place mats at all external entrances to any area where Readyflor is installed and to adhere Premium Felt Floor Protectors to the underside of all moving furniture.

When Your Floor is Dirty

Mop the floor using a well wrung mop. Use one capful of Premium Cork & Timber Cleaner (pictured left) in a bucket of warm water for best results. It is advisable to wipe up any excess cleaning water using a clean rag or towel.

When your floor starts to show signs of wear...

You can either apply one coat of polyurethane floor finish or begin using a metalised polish like Premium Renew. Applying a coat of polyurethane. Despite having to move all furniture from the floor and leave the house for 24 hours while the coating dries, applying a coat of polyurethane finish every 2 to 8 years (depending upon the level of foot traffic) will provide your floor with a tough, wear resistant finish. Gloss or satin finish can be applied in approved solvent or water based finishes to provide long term protection to your floor. Application of polyurethane, although quite easy to do yourself, is most often left to the professional floor sanders. This is the low maintenance approach to maintaining your Readyflor.

Applying a coat of metalised polish. Renew is a metalised polish that is applied to your floor to provide a "sacrificial wear layer". Renew will usually need to be applied every 3-6 months, depending on foot traffic levels. This product is very easy to apply yourself. After cleaning the floor using Premium Cork & Timber Cleaner, apply one coat of Renew using a squeegee or polycotton mop. Renew dries to an attractive satin finish after 30-45 minutes with best results achieved if left overnight to cure. Renew can be touched up at any time using a clean chux type cloth. It should be noted however that a floor coated with metalised polish will scuff and mark more readily than a floor coated with polyurethane. In saying this, in many cases, it is often better to apply a coat of polyurethane instead of metalised polish.

Useful tips

Once your floor has been coated with Renew, do not use methylated spirits on the floor to clean or remove any stains. If re-coating your floor with polyurethane, all Renew needs to be removed. Renew Stripper is available for this purpose. Renew can be buffed between coats to harden the surface. A white buffing pad on a medium - high speed polisher should be used for this purpose.
